Aman is preparing to make its long-awaited arrival in the Maldives with Amanolu, its first destination in the archipelago, set among the pristine islands of Vaavu Atoll.
Taking its name from Aman, the Sanskrit word for ‘peace’, and Olu, inspired by the water lily, Amanolu will bring the brand’s distinctive approach to space, privacy and connection with nature to one of the world’s most celebrated island destinations.
The project will encompass an intimate 52-key resort alongside a limited collection of fully serviced Aman Residences, with dedicated islands for wellness and recreation. Each of the five-bedroom residences will occupy an entire private island, extending the sense of seclusion beyond the resort itself.
Longtime Aman collaborator KHA will shape Amanolu around the particular geography of the Maldives, with an approach defined by restraint and simplicity.
Rather than treating the landscape as a backdrop, the design will respond directly to the surrounding seascape. Architecture and landscape will flow between indoors and out, while changing light, water and uninterrupted horizons become part of the experience.
Across Amanolu, the resort and residences will share the same emphasis on space and a close relationship with their natural surroundings, while remaining distinctly private.
The Aman Residences will take the idea of private-island living quite literally. Each five-bedroom home will occupy its own island, creating a personal retreat surrounded entirely by the Indian Ocean.
Expansive indoor and outdoor living areas will open towards sunrise or sunset views, with select islands positioned for uninterrupted outlooks from dawn until dusk. Each residence will also feature a 25-metre swimming pool, dedicated staff accommodation and a personal berth.
While the homes are conceived as worlds of their own, ownership will extend into the wider Amanolu experience. Residence owners will have access to the destination’s dining, wellness and recreational amenities, including its dedicated wellness and activity islands, supported by Aman’s personalised service.
For Aman, whose destinations have long been shaped by a strong relationship between place and design, Vaavu Atoll offers a distinctly Maldivian setting for its next chapter.
The relatively intimate scale of the 52-key resort, together with separate islands devoted to wellness, recreation and private residences, creates a destination spread across the surrounding seascape rather than concentrated around a single island.
With Amanolu, the brand’s first chapter in the Maldives will be one defined by the qualities that have long shaped its identity: space, simplicity and a close connection to nature, this time, surrounded by the waters of Vaavu Atoll.
